This S.H. Figuarts exclusive from the 2017 SDCC (San Diego Comic Con), Son Goku 'Kaiohken Ver.', is another re-release of the 2014 base form Goku figure with the 1.0 body. This time, it features a recolor to resemble the active use of the Kaiohken, along with changes to the kanji and belt. It maintains the same sculpt and basic accessories, but includes an additional red ki aura effect.
Son Goku 'Kaiohken Ver.' is an event-exclusive figure released for the 2017 San Diego Comic Con (SDCC). It is also the 41st release in the Dragon Ball S.H. Figuarts collection.
The first interesting detail about this figure is that it had a twin release: in 2017, for the Tamashii World Tour 10th, the same figure was released—same name, same colors, same accessories... the only difference: the box.
Secondly, including this one and the Tamashii World Tour version, a total of five Goku figures have been released using this mold. The only differences are slight variations in colors, kanji, and belt. These Gokus are: the original from 2014, the Mexican and SDCC 2015 editions (which are also twin releases), and finally these two—this SDCC 2017 version and the Tamashii World Tour version.
Focusing solely on comparing it to the 2014 original, this figure features a completely different paint job, giving it the signature scarlet tone of the Kaiohken. Another difference is the belt, which is now tied in a knot. The third notable change is the kanji: this version features Goku with the Turtle School kanji on the front and the North Kaioh kanji on the back—something unique to this version and its twin. Additionally, it comes with a red ki aura accessory, which is not included in the older versions.
At listacompletade.com, we do not recommend this figure unless you’re a completionist, as there are newer versions with the 2.0 body, such as those from 2020 or 2023.
If you’d like to see a short unboxing or review, we've prepared a YouTube video where the figure is showcased.
