This S.H. Figuarts exclusive from the Tamashii 10th World Tour 2017, Son Goku 'Kaiohken Ver.', is a re-release of the 2014 base form Goku figure with the 1.0 body. It has been repainted to give the appearance of the Kaiohken technique being active, featuring changes to the kanji and belt, but keeping the same sculpt and basic accessories, with the addition of a ki aura effect.
Son Goku 'Kaiohken Ver.' is an event-exclusive figure released for the 10th Tamashii World Tour in 2017. It is also the 40th release in the Dragon Ball S.H. Figuarts collection.
The first detail or curiosity about this figure is that it had a twin release: in the same year, 2017, for the SDCC, the exact same figure was launched—same name, same colors, same accessories... the only difference was the box.
Secondly, counting this one and the SDCC version, there are a total of five Goku figures released using this mold, with only slight variations in colors, kanji, and the belt. These Gokus are: the original 2014 release, the Mexico and SDCC 2015 versions (which are also twins), and finally these two—the SDCC 2017 and the one we’re discussing here.
Comparing it strictly to the 2014 original, this figure has completely different paintwork, giving it the scarlet tone characteristic of the Kaiohken. Another difference is the belt, which is now tied, and the third noticeable change is the kanji: here, Goku features the Turtle kanji on the front and the North Kaio’s kanji on the back (unique to this version and its twin). It also includes a ki aura effect accessory, which the earlier versions did not.
From listacompletade.com, we don’t recommend this figure unless you’re a completionist, since more modern versions with the 2.0 body exist, like the ones from 2020 or 2023.
Still, if you’d like to see a quick unboxing or review, we’ve prepared a video from the YouTube channel Distribuidora Animéxico, where they showcase the figure and talk about the event where it was sold.
