This S.H. Figuarts – Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Son Goku "Kaio-Ken" was released as a V-Jump exclusive to commemorate the magazine's 30th anniversary and Tamashii's 15th in 2023. The figure itself is a re-release of the Exclusive Edition from NYCC 2021: same design, sculpt, colors, and 2.0 body, but it comes without the ki aura effect.
This articulated figure – Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Son Goku "Kaio-Ken" – was released in 2023 as a region-exclusive, specifically only for Japan, and was sold alongside the famous manga magazine V-Jump to commemorate its 30th anniversary, along with the brand’s 15th anniversary. It is also figure number 159 in the Dragon Ball S.H. Figuarts collection.
This figure is a re-release of the Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Son Goku "Kaio-Ken" 'Event Exclusive Color Edition' from NYCC 2021: same mold and sculpt, same 2.0 body type, same coloring, and same accessories, except for the ki aura included in the NYCC version. The other difference is the box.
Regarding the box, it’s what gives the figure the most exclusivity, as it includes a slipcover with illustrations by Toyotaro, which can be seen in the photo gallery of the figure.
This is a controversial figure, as the original NYCC 2021 version was very exclusive, being the only figure of Goku SSJ Blue using Kaio-Ken, and also with the battle-damaged body but wearing a vest. When this figure was released, the NYCC one lost some of its exclusivity, and many felt deceived about the price they paid to acquire it.
In response, remember that neither the mold, sculpt, nor body—meaning the figure itself—will ever be exclusive because Tamashii can re-release it. What is always exclusive is the release itself, with the total content—figure, accessories, box, and colors—potentially changing. This figure differs from the original in two things: the box and accessories. That’s why it’s not a restock but a new release. It’s also why we shouldn’t fully trust Tamashii with “exclusive figures,” as often the exclusivity is only the box.
From listacompletade.com, it is a figure we recommend if you couldn’t get the NYCC version and find this one at a good price. Besides all this, if you want to see an unboxing with comparison, I invite you to watch the video from our friend on the YouTube channel Andoru Rohan, who gladly shows it.
