Dragon Ball Z: Super Gokuden - Totsugeki-Hen

Dragon Ball Z: Super Gokuden - Totsugeki-Hen is the fifth Dragon Ball Z game released for the Super Nintendo and Super Famicom, although it never had official versions in Europe or America, so it only came out for the SFC. It is also the first RPG adventure game released for this console in 1995.

Although its title includes DBZ, the game only covers the classic Dragon Ball era, when Goku was still a child. Its story spans from the beginning of Dragon Ball to the defeat of Piccolo Daimaoh, covering almost the entire original series.

Its gameplay is narrative-focused with action or event moments, where players must make decisions or press buttons to fight, since battles are semi-automatic, requiring timed inputs. It feels like watching Dragon Ball interactively, similar to a graphic adventure.

Players will control Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, and other characters depending on the story arc being played.

Nintendo Gamecube (DOL-001)

The Nintendo GameCube, or DOL-001, was the sixth-generation console released by Nintendo to replace the N64 and compete against the PS2 and the Xbox.

The console supports connections for up to four controllers and memory cards, as well as other peripherals to connect with other consoles like the GBA.

The console had several special editions, such as Pokémon or Metal Gear Solid, but none for Dragon Ball.

It is the first home console to replace cartridges with discs, but these are special 8 cm discs developed by and for Nintendo, meaning the console cannot play CDs or DVDs.

The console has region locks, and neither games nor memory cards are compatible between consoles and games from different regions. However, there are methods like Freeloader or tinkering with the console to bypass these locks and play your games for collection purposes.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero - Premium Collector's Edition

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero – Premium Collector's Edition is the most complete version of the game (above the Collector's Edition), released on the game’s official launch day in 2024, and sold exclusively through the Bandai Namco Store.

This edition is identical to the Collector’s, but with a small bonus for purchasing from the official store. It was also produced in a very limited quantity, making it one of the only editions (alongside the Collector’s) to include a physical copy of the game. It includes the base game, everything from the Deluxe edition (i.e., access to the first season pass with 3 DLCs, plus 3-day early access to each one).

It also contains the full content of the Ultimate edition, i.e., the Ultimate Upgrade Pack: Goku (Super) outfit with Power Pole, emotes, backgrounds, a customization item, and the Super Shenron Summon—all of which are cosmetic items.

From the Collector’s Edition, it includes the physical game, a Goku and Broly (DB: Super) diorama statue, and a decorative steelbook case.

As exclusive content of the Premium Collector’s Edition, available only through the Bandai Namco Store, it also includes an additional steelbook and 4 cards from the Dragon Ball Super Card Game: Fusion Worlds.

The 3 DLCs in the first pass feature over 20 characters from DB: Super and DB: Daima, along with cosmetics, and some story and battle content.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO

Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is the fourth game in the Sparking! series, known in Europe and America as ‘Tenkaichi Budokai’. It is the fourth fighting game in this epic saga, featuring next-gen graphics and technology with unmatched expectations.

It includes a multiplayer mode focused on online or local PvP, allowing us to compete with friends and family. Its story mode is very complete and includes various ‘What if...’ scenarios that must be triggered by performing specific actions during story mode. Some of these what ifs are really good.

The game features a huge character roster, covering all Dragon Ball sagas, from Kid Goku's beginnings, through the three major DBZ sagas, and even content from DB Super and DB Daima.

For those unfamiliar with previous Tenkaichi titles, the fights take place in 3D environments with full movement freedom across the map, where players must defeat enemies using techniques and melee combos.

Besides being available on PC, the game is also out on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a survival multiplayer game, whose genre is called "Asymmetrical Survival Multiplayer (1 Raider vs. 7 Survivors)", in this case it will always be 1 vs 7.

The Raider or Hunter aims to eliminate all Survivors or Prey, while the latter must hide around the map, use items and vehicles to survive the hunter or raider.

In this case, being a Dragon Ball game, the hunters are represented by Dragon Ball villains like Cell, Frieza, or Majin Buu, who evolve and change form (e.g., Cell 1st form becomes Cell 2nd form and then reaches his final or perfect form) as the match progresses.

The survivors or prey must play as a team to survive. They can choose from some DB characters and original ones from the game. Their goal is to activate "the time machine" and escape, as many as can make it.

The game, besides PC, is also available on: PS4/PS5, Xbox One/Series, and Nintendo Switch.

Super Nintendo (SNES - NTSC)

The SNES (USA) or Super Nintendo was the second home console with interchangeable cartridges released by Nintendo for the American market, replacing the Nintendo NES and surpassing it in every aspect.

This console has two sister versions: one Japanese and one European. In Europe, it was also called Super Nintendo or SNES, as in both regions it replaced the NES, the equivalent of the Japanese Famicom. However, while the Japanese and European versions shared the cartridge system and design (only the printed name and the electrical system changed), the U.S. version had a different design and cartridge system.

Regarding cartridge compatibility between regions, this console has a lockout chip and the physical limitation of the cartridges, since Japanese and European cartridges are smaller and only have 60 pins instead of 72 like the American cartridges. Therefore, to play an EU or JPN game, we need an adapter (which also bypasses the lockout chip), but no Dragon Ball games were officially released in the U.S.
