This S.H. Figuarts - Son Goku & Dragon '40th Anniversary Edition', released exclusively in Japan in 2025, brings a recreation of the cover of volume one of the Dragon Ball manga. The figure features an entirely new design and sculpt, includes several accessories like the Power Pole and other weapons, but what really stands out is the Shenron diorama.
This articulated figure – Son Goku & Dragon ‘40th Anniversary Edition’ – was released in 2025 as a Japan-exclusive regional release, being figure number 191 in the Dragon Ball S.H. Figuarts collection.
Looking at all the Goku figures released by Tamashii Nations in this collection, all based on Classic Dragon Ball use the same body: the 2018 Son Goku with a Kid 1.0 articulation system, all sharing the same scale error. This figure finally corrects that.
As mentioned, this is the first Classic-era Kid Goku figure with a new mold since 2018, and the articulation systems for child bodies have greatly improved since then, with several types: Kid 2.0 seen in 2021 Chaoz, Kid 3.0 in 2024 Son Goku ‘GT’, and the newest up to 2025, Kid 4.0 seen in late 2024 Goku ‘mini’ ‘Daima’. This figure represents an intermediate experimental state between Kid 3.0 and 4.0, with experiments in elbow and knee joints.
As said, the design and sculpt are completely new and original, based on the cover of volume one of the original Dragon Ball manga and other Toriyama illustrations, showing Goku in his orange outfit instead of the blue seen in the anime. The body uses a Kid 3.5 articulation architecture, respecting scale and mobility.
Regarding accessories, it’s a strong point, including more than enough hands and faces, several weapons including the Nyoibo. It also includes 2 hair pieces and 3 bangs for many combinations. Most importantly—and part of the figure’s name—it includes a mini Shenron dragon and a stand that together form a diorama and ‘mount’ or support for our Kid Goku.
From listacompletade.com, we recommend this figure to completists and those who grew up with the Dragon Ball manga, while DBZ fans might not find it as appealing. Still, it’s the best Classic-era Kid Goku figure so far, and this new body opens the way for other modernized, better-scaled character variants.
